How does MyHealthTeam use AI?
Generative Artificial intelligence, or AI, is technology that can read, understand, and generate text.
In partnership with our most engaged members, we’ve integrated AI in a few specific places to make our communities more useful. AI works in the background to support your experience, and we review AI performance to make sure it’s beneficial and appropriate for users.
Our sites are built around real connections between real people. We want you to know exactly how AI fits into that and what it does not do.
It does not make decisions for you, and it does not replace the unique insights and experiences shared by the people in this community. Most importantly, AI on our sites is not intended to give medical advice. These services are not intended to diagnose, treat, or cure any condition or disease. Always ask your doctor about specific health concerns.
Nothing generated by AI on our sites is medical advice and should not be relied on as medical advice; it is informational content based on medically reviewed sources.

Real people are the heart of the community
MyHealthTeam organizes social networks. The people here are members who live with the same condition as you, and these people are the reason this community works.
AI does not replace that. The conversations you have, the questions you ask each other, and the support you give each other are what make this community valuable. AI is here to help by pulling in information from MyHealthTeam’s own medically reviewed resources.

What does AI do on our sites?
We use AI in a few specific places to make your experience more useful.
Instant answers in Q&A
When you post a question in the Q&A section, you may see an AI-generated response appear alongside answers from community members. This response is labeled so you know it comes from AI, and posters have the ability to deselect the AI response option to their questions.
These responses are based on medically reviewed content and are meant to give you a starting point while you wait for others to weigh in. Sources are included so you can read further if you want to. It does not replace the responses of other members; it sits alongside them.
On newer communities that are still gaining members, it’s possible to post a question and receive only an AI response. We understand that can feel frustrating. Human responses may take longer, but other members are here and many do respond. You can also browse the Q&A section to find others asking similar questions.
Thread summaries in Q&A
Some Q&A threads receive many responses over time. When a thread is long, you may see a short summary at the top that captures the key points shared by members. This is generated by AI to help you get oriented quickly, especially if you are coming to a conversation late. The full thread is always available below so you can read every response in full and verify the information contained in the AI-generated summary directly from the source material.
Welcome messages
When you first join, you may receive a welcome message posted to your profile. This message is written using AI and comes from our site admin account, not from a specific community member. We use AI here because we want every new member to feel seen and welcomed, no matter when they join or how large the community is.
Community assistant
Some community pages offer a floating AI assistant that can provide information related to common questions about a health condition or the website. This assistant is powered by a closed-instance CustomGPT designed to support security and privacy compliance.
The assistant answers your questions using MyHealthTeam’s own medically reviewed resources. Its responses are for informational purposes only and are not medical advice, and your use of the assistant is entirely optional.
MyHealthTeam stores certain information related to your interactions with the assistant, including the prompts you submit, the tasks you ask the assistant to complete, and limited interaction metadata (e.g., responses to the “Was this helpful?” prompt, impressions, and other engagement data). This information is used and retained by MyHealthTeam pursuant to our privacy policy to evaluate the assistant’s performance, to conduct analytics and other internal research to develop and improve the assistant.
Member data associated with use of the assistant is stored within MyHealthTeam’s systems, which are protected as described in the privacy policy. Information related to your use of the assistant may be shared with third parties in anonymized and aggregated form.

Is this site run by AI?
No. MyHealthTeam communities are supported by community managers, editors, and developers. AI powers some features on the website to help us do specific things more efficiently, but the community is powered by members like you.
AI-powered features on our sites go through testing and human review before reaching you. That review process involves members of our Product, Content, and Operations teams.
An AI feature can be blocked from release if it does not meet our standards, and we regularly monitor features and responses after release. We endeavor to make sure responses:
Do not contain unsafe or policy-violating content
Do not include misleading or incorrect medical information
Do not present fabricated or made-up facts as truth
Are functional and work as intended
Do not expose sensitive or restricted information
Questions or concerns?
If something feels off, or if you have feedback about your experience with any AI feature on the site, we want to hear from you. You can reach our support team by submitting a ticket below.
